TEXT WRITING A PRE-INTERMEDIATE ESL WRITING COURSE

This book, titled Text Writing—A Pre-Intermediate ESL Writing Course, was originally developed to be used as a workbook in a writing course at the Bachelor’s Degree MProgram in English Education, Arts and Language MEducation Department, Education and MTeacher Training Faculty, Lampung University. The course is the second of a series of five Mwriting courses: Basic Writing, Pre-Intermediate Writing, Intermediate Writing, Advanced MWriting, and Academic Writing. The goal of the course is primarily to develop students’ ESL writing proficiency especially in creating different types of texts. There is another, more psy- chological, objective—to build students’ awareness and self-confidence that they have the potentials and the capability to use English as a second language as a written means of communication. In contrast, the third, fourth, and fifth courses in the series would put more emphasis on the development of writing proficiency, especially in relation to academic writing since this type of writing is what students are expected to master, to some extent, and since this type of writing is highly beneficial in their endeavor to attain a bachelor’s degree in English education.
